Pharrell’s new collection: Monogram, Neutrals, and Gong Yoo
Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton is a multi-stream experience, has been from the very beginning. So when he presents a new collection, it’s never just a fashion show, it’s often also a concert and/or listening party, or a dance party, and an art gallery, and this season also a design convention, since the set this time was a living room, conceived in collaboration with Not a Hotel, the architecture firm based in Japan that specialises in high-end vacation homes. I first heard about Not a Hotel last summer, after reading this article about their work and business concept in Tokyo Weekender, a website I bookmark because I am never not trying to get back to Japan.
Seriously, look at this property in Kyoto, with the view of To-ji Temple. I’m basically pitching this to Jacek for our 25th wedding anniversary trip because Tō-ji was the first five-story pagoda that we visited when we went to Japan a couple of years ago.
Here’s the space that was designed for the Louis Vuitton show last night.
As for the clothes, it was strong on neutrals, business casual, most of it quite wearable, if you can afford it. And the monogram was popping, sent down the runway in a leather jacket that looked like what would happen if you took the seams out of a Speedy…

…and also a puffer which is hilarious to me because a puffer is a coat, in my experience, that we are often careless about because it doesn’t need that much “protection”. A Louis Vuitton puffer though? I would be so paranoid I don’t think I’d be able to wear it with the comfort and ease that I associate with puffers.

The most luxurious jacket, though, is probably the one Pharrell wore himself at the end of the show. It looks buttery and luxe AF.

Adorably his wife, Helen, and their children were in matching fits… though not at the same price point.

As usual, a long list of celebrities were in attendance – LV is a big draw, and Pharrell always drops new music on his runways so there were new collabs featuring John Legend, Jackson Wang and Pusha T, and more.
I really enjoyed seeing Stephen Graham on the guest list, now that he’s won all the awards in Hollywood, outfitted in all LV, including slightly bell-bottomed pants. Look at this short king!

But, of course and as usual, the LV menswear celebrity who always tops my list is Gong Yoo. who is always my #1. This man is SO fine.
What else happened today…
The new Ralph Lauren menswear collection is very cozy, very holiday. Some of it is cute. Some of it is… extremely Gen Alpha theatre kid. I’m not mad at it but it’s kinda niche. Also, I’m always down for a ball cap and I don’t even mind a branded one, but I don’t know that I could wear one that says “RALPH” in cursive, it’s goofy. (Go Fug Yourself)
Kayleigh Donaldson on Kate Hudson’s Oscar campaign. Or, as I’ve been calling it, the industry plant. (Pajiba)
Brian Phillips is here to guide you through the shambolic embarrassment that is now the CBS Evening News. Seriously, it’s been a disaster and that’s an understatement. Appalling for journalism and also for television production! (The Ringer)
Wait, I don’t think I’ve talked about Heated Rivalry yet today. Please. As if I could go through an entire day. If you are obsessed with HR, you have to read David Mack’s piece on how the show is taking over the party scene. (The Cut)
Big day tomorrow. Presales for BTS’s upcoming tour. I am so f-cking anxious, like I have half a dozen alarms set for different cities and getting into the waiting room and even just thinking about it my hands and feet feel numb from the anxiety. Anyway, as mentioned earlier this week, Korean media was reporting that BTS was securing permits for a performance on the day the new album drops at multiple heritage sites in Seoul. Local journalists are sharing more details about what the proposed event might look like. Please please please let this be livestreamed. (Korea Times)
