That’s what Duana called it over text last night when she messaged me about this. She used all-caps. And then followed up with, “It is an anointing!”
Duana was referring to the announcement yesterday that … well… I mean the post says it all:
Quinta is getting her own Oprah moment. And when Oprah dedicates a whole-ass special to you, you know it’s big f-cking deal. Quinta Brunson is a Big F-cking Deal!
Like… WHAT A YEAR IT’s BEEN.
Abbott Elementary premiered on ABC as a midseason series on December 7, 2021. Can you even?! It hasn’t even been a year!!!
The show is a smash hit. The show has won multiple Emmys, including one for Quinta herself, the first Black woman to earn a solo win for Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series. Abbott Elementary was created by Quinta, she is also the showrunner, and she is the star. This is why she keeps racking up the honours. The Hollywood Reporter named her the Comedy Star of the Year.
But, again, WHAT YEAR? It hasn’t even been a year!
Of course, of course, of course, it took a lot of hard work, much of which has not been documented, to get to where Quinta is today. But my point is… this is a classic Hollywood meteoric rise. And it absolutely should be celebrated by Oprah. Getting her own Oprah interview is basically the victory lap.
A victory lap in a great outfit. That dress is cute, right? All of Quinta’s looks have been cute lately. The last time I mentioned her style, it was at the Wearable Art gala where she showed up in a green fringe flapper dress with a headpiece, my favourite fit of the night.
