Beasts Of The Southern Wild will be released on DVD next week, on December 4th. Have you seen it? I highly, highly recommend. Now this is the work of an exciting new director. His name is Benh Zeitlin and his leading lady might be nominated for an Oscar. It looks like they’re working hard, on what has to be a limited budget, to make that happen.

Hushpuppy, is that you?

Check out Quvenzhane Wallis hanging out with all the grownup actresses at The Variety Studio yesterday. She was in New York earlier this week at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. And she’ll be everywhere as much as they can afford it as we move into the Academy’s balloting window beginning December 17th. Members have just under a month to narrow down the nominees. They say Quvenzhane has a good chance, and the way she’s working it, it’s looking even better. I guess that’s what they do now. Children are campaigning.

I wish though there was some way Dwight Henry, who played her father, could be acknowledged for her performance. Their scenes together were some of the most affecting I’ve seen this year. I still can’t think about it and not want to cry.

Next Tuesday, if you haven’t, you should. I promise it’s worth your time.
