Taika Waititi celebrated his 50th birthday this past weekend and he and Rita Ora celebrated it in Ibiza along with a list of celebrity friends that included Matt Damon, Kate Moss, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joel Edgerton, and cigarettes. We’ll come back to the cigarettes shortly. 

 

Instead of nicotine, let’s talk about another drug: cocaine. I am not saying that there was cocaine at the party, what I’m saying is there is cocaine everywhere. The Hollywood Reporter just did a piece about how much cocaine there is on television right now, citing The Studio (a parody about Hollywood), Hacks (another parody), and The Righteous Gemstones and you can add Lena Dunham’s Too Much to that for a more recent release. As noted in the article, “global cocaine production and consumption have skyrocketed. An estimated 25 million people used cocaine since 2023, according to a United Nations report issued in June. That figure is up from 17 million a decade earlier, according to The New York Times.” It’s not that cocaine ever left Hollywood – as IF – but I guess… nobody is pretending anymore? An interesting dichotomy considering that Hollywood has been performing so much healthiness over the last decade when the routine, really, might be Pilates and juicing in the morning, bump and snorting at night.

 

As for smoking, similar to cocaine, celebrities have always smoked. And they’ve been smoking a lot on camera too, THR also mentions that. Which brings us back to Rita and the trays and bowls of cigarettes that she actually posted in her carousel, proudly. Instagram, after all, is where people go to show off. The entire album made me laugh, for a few reasons. First… um… I don’t think they look that sweaty because of just cigarettes and alcohol, but also for his birthday there are more solo shots of her posing than anything else, LOOOOOL. And, most hilariously, in pop culture, when we think of bowls of cigarettes, it’s always, always, always going to be Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. They invented the motherf-cker. Do not let Rita Ora claim this. 

 

Remember when Taika, Rita, and Tessa Thompson were a throuple for five minutes? Tessa doesn’t have time for this right now because she’s about to enter the Oscar race. Nia DaCosta’s Hedda will have its world premiere at TIFF, one of Sarah’s most highly anticipated films. This is an adaptation of Ibsen’s play, Hedda Gabler, and Vanity Fair just published a first-look feature today. 

 

Chinese celebrities do not f-cking play when it comes to the red carpet. Unlike Korean celebrities who, in my opinion, don’t dial it up enough at premieres and award shows, Chinese celebrities go all the f-ck out. Last night it was the W China Annual Gala and… as usual… dripping in couture. 

For me it’s Dilraba. She is one of the most famous women in China. The face card is unreal. And she is wearing the sh-t out of this Robert Wun look.

And finally, in BTS news today… it’s another collaboration with McDonald’s. TinyTAN is basically BTS in miniature animation. Besides ARMY, who would be into TinyTAN? The same people who are into Labubus.
