The Assassination of Gianni Versace won multiple times last night: Outstanding Limited Series, directing for Ryan Murphy, and Lead Actor in a Limited Series for Darren Criss. Ryan dedicated the award to the “one out of every four LGBTQ people in this country (who) will be the victim of a hate crime”, calling out “homophobia, internalised and externalised”. These are the stories he’s telling on screen. Behind the scenes, as we all know, Ryan is also promoting equality and inclusion through the Half Foundation. In one year, between 2015 and 2016, the foundation “increased the director slate from 12% female/diverse directors to 51%”. This is swift, determined action. And his ongoing success, both critically and commercially and prestigiously, means that that he’ll be able to continue creating opportunities.

While accepting his director award, Ryan also shouted out the women who have inspired him: Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angela Basset, Sarah Paulson. Ryan Murphy writes interesting roles for women, women of all ages. And Judith Light is one of them. Judith Light. Forever and ever Judith Light.

In the last decade, can you say you’ve ever been disappointed seeing Judith Light at an award show? Is there anyone who’s more consistently f-cking awesome on a red carpet? She is sublime in this slinky, high collar, looping caped yellow gown. But also the night before in a sequined black suit:

And the night before that in a white suit:

This woman keeps serving it to us, look after look after look. Style porn upon style porn upon style porn.

Unlike…

Penelope Cruz. Penelope wore Chanel to the Emmys. Feathered Chanel. Feathered everything and always. It’s boring. You know how boring? Let me show you.

Here’s Penelope in feathers at the Oscars in 2007:

Feathers again at the Oscars in 2008:

Here’s Penelope in feathers in 2011:

Oh look, more feathers in 2017:

The feathers at these Emmys are probably her worst feathers of all time. Is this is a signature? SHOULD it be a signature? Like how Diane Keaton has a signature look? I don’t think feathers are a “look”. To me, at this point, feathers on Penelope Cruz are disqualification.
