Dear Gossips,
A cop and a killer are obsessed with each other. It becomes less about the catching of the criminal than it is about the connection between them. You’ve seen this so many times: Heat, starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino is a good example, also Point Break, and Se7en, and every Bond movie, and most recently Manhunt: Unabomber. It’s a long, long list. It’s a dude favourite go-to story that never gets old.
And now it’s a series starring two women called Killing Eve: Sandra Oh is the investigator chasing down an assassin, played by Jodie Comer. They start psychologically circling each other. At some point it turns into more than just a job for Eve – she’s not Evelyn Salt, this was not previously a career for her, a woman in her 40s, but the pursuit opens up something inside of her…and, somehow, it’s still funny. Somehow Killing Eve is serious without taking itself too seriously. Which is just one of the reasons it’s already been given a second season before the first season has even started.
The first episode of Killing Eve is now available online. Did you miss the part when I said that the star is Sandra Oh? Sandra Oh has been doing press all week. Sandra Oh is back on television in a role that she says she’s been waiting for since she left Seattle Grace four years ago. And, naturally, it’s the role and the series everyone is now talking about. I’ve pitched this to Duana for the next episode of Show Your Work. Sandra Oh is the sh-t, I love her so much. I love that we’re ending the week on Sandra Oh. Killing Eve premieres on BBC America on Sunday. I love that we’ll be heading into a new week with Sandra Oh too.
Have a great weekend!
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
