Sarah Paulson: Chaos energy and more rugby fashion
All’s Fair season two premiered this week on Hulu and Disney+ and is probably getting excoriated by critics the same way the first season was reviewed. As bad as the show is, however, if there is one person who is never bad, it’s Sarah Paulson.
Sarah Paulson has been doing this for years in Ryan Murphy productions – no matter the quality, she always understands the assignment. And then she goes on the press tour and becomes the MVP again. No matter who she’s promoting a project with, whether it’s Cate Blanchett or Kim Kardashian, pretty much the two ends of the acting spectrum, Sarah is the most fun to be around, and the funniest to be around, and reliably and totally chaotic. I love this about her. Even Kim seems to have more personality, at least publicly, when she’s with Sarah. In fact, the two of them are apparently uncontrollably messy together, it’s happened multiple times on the junket this year and last year where they just set each other off and then can’t stop laughing. Here’s a moment that went viral last year and is coming back around this time and it’s pretty much a given that Sarah will derail an interview at least once on a press tour.
And derail the set while they’re filming…
All the cast members of All’s Fair have been all over New York this week promoting the show. The other day on GMA, Sarah was in a green and black rugby, over a white shirt, over a sparkly skirt – such a good look and totally on trend since the rugby polo has been popular all year. I did a post back in March about rugby shirts and sweaters, I wore mine all through spring and summer and now it’s time for an update.
Sarah’s rugby is Michael Kors, from the Spring 2027 (so it’s not available at retail yet), which means the rugby will be around next year too. But here’s what IS available…at least for now…
The one that started it all for me, what I still consider to be the most perfect cashmere rugby – it’s from Gigi Hadid’s Guest in Residence. As noted back in March, it’s because it’s a one-piece that looks like a two-piece and the limewash colourway was, seriously, a hero piece from the collection. And it sold out fast.
Gigi brought the Layered Stripe Rugby back in three new colourways and the Alice Blue Combo is just as good as the limewash. The Guest in Residence price point is steep, I know, but if you want it, I wouldn’t wait because, again, the inventory goes quickly.
The rugby polo has become my uniform of 2026 so there are rugby polos all over my rack at work and also in my personal closet, I like them so much. Here’s a new one that just came in that I can’t wait to wear on the show over a pair of brown cords – the Sézane Selene Jumper in navy and cream and cinnamon is gorgeous.
In Canada, there’s been a rugby that has been showing up everywhere. I wore mine all Oscar weekend last March and since then I see it on someone else at least once a week. It was the Root Signature Polo; I am obsessed with it.
The blue and white is no longer available (nor is the brown and white) because the focus is on the winter option, the Roots Polo Sweater in maroon fig. Looks really good over any jeans.
KOTN is another excellent Canadian brand, and their Shrunken Rugby Shirt comes in so many colourways, allllll of them are great, I have it in Grey/Brown.
The Guess Striped Polo comes in classic blues and I am super into the boxy fit of this one because it looks great over a pleated short skirt with tights and boots which is how we styled it for the show.
Mavi’s Rugby Polo Sweater also fits on the relaxed to boxy side. It hangs perfectly just past the hips, and I quite like the shoulder drop.
Here’s another boxy option – the Rugby Stripes Wool-blend Polo from Simons in a fresh peppermint and brown colourway that always cheers me up when I turn the corner and see it on the rack.
Finally, for value and comfort, as usual it’s Gap. Their CashSoft pieces are indeed extremely soft and the CashSoft Relaxed Sweater Polo Shirt in forest moss green is currently under $45, a very good deal.
