If the category is sequins, you throw on a tulle cape and you start with Miss Diana Ross who performed at the Academy Museum Gala in a silver sequined set that also functions as athleisure. Between this and the coastal grandmother fashion trend, the seniors are leading the way in style.
While Miss Ross was all about fluff and sparkle, Taylor Russell went sleek and edgy in all leather. This is Alexander McQueen, the construction is exquisite, and everything about this is modern, from the silhouette to the functionality. The way she’s tucking her hands into the top like it’s a hoodie!!!
Speaking of gloves, this is the third fashion post from the Academy gala and how did we go this long without a Law Roach production? Two Law clients were at the event last night – and Kerry Washington was the one finished off the look (dress is Prabal) with a pair of latex opera gloves. It’s exactly the right choice for a pretty enough dress, but not all that remarkable until the gloves come on. And then it’s instant drama.
Law also styled Keke Palmer and lit up a black suit with an explosion of blue tulle. I love the imagination in the design – because tulle is typically paired not with pants, and seeing it used in this way is so fresh and contemporary.
Finally, a big showing for Louis Vuitton with at least four ambassadors at the gala: Jung Hoyeon, Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander, and Sophie Turner. As you can see, black lace seems to be the LV vibe right now with all four women showcasing black lace in their outfits. Sophie is definitely the outlier though, with the riding jacket worn over a leather dress, and I am obsessed with the quilting on the lapels.
