Dear Gossips,

It’s a holiday weekend in the United States but the work will pick up almost immediately afterwards, not only because there are some other major summer blockbuster releases that are about to come out but because these are the final two weeks before Emmy nomination voting begins on June 12. Nominations will then be announced on July 15.

On the drama series side, it looks like it’ll come down to Severance vs The White Lotus although The Last of Us and The Pitt could be a factor. Where The Pitt could really make some noise, though, is in the Best Lead Drama Actor category, strengthened by the fact that Noah Wyle’s been submitted in three categories:  acting, writing, and producing.

On the comedy side, interestingly enough, Variety currently had a freshman series in the lead. The Studio’s first season just ended last week and it is, no question, Seth Rogen’s love letter to Hollywood is the breakout comedy of the year. The critics love it, the audience loves it, and the industry loves it – because, of course, it’s about the industry, and it’s an opportunity for the Television Academy to, kinda sorta, laugh at the people on the film side, even though there’s so much overlap now.

One of the things The Studio does best is make excellent use of its guest stars. Martin Scorsese in the first episode was a get and they maximised that opportunity, to the point where Martin’s name has been submitted for consideration for a guest Emmy. Can you imagine Marty’s name getting called in a category that isn’t directing?

But he’s also up against Bryan Cranston and if you’ve see the show, you know what Bryan Cranston is bringing to The Studio – it’s unhinged and hilarious and I’m not sure how the cast held it together in his presence. That last episode, between Bryan’s chaos and Zoë Kravitz’s chaos and Dave Franco’s demented screaming, LOL forever, was a f-cking banger. And there’s no doubt, just like The White Lotus, probably everyone in Hollywood wants a shot at this show. Seth, by the way, says he wants Daniel Day-Lewis. Please, someone, make this happen.

Speaking of Seth, though, a nomination for Lead Comedy Actor seems inevitable. And maybe even a win.

But here’s Bryan Cranston, bringing Griffin Mill energy, to The Studio’s FYC event last week. Just looking at him makes me want to scream with laughter.
