Ha! That’s another double entendre!

GQ hosted its annual Men of the Year party last night in LA, and we just need to talk about one of them – Shaboozey, who wore a sash with the title across his body, and it’s indisputable at this point. Because this week, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” topped the Billboard Hot 100 once again, for the 17th time. That’s 17 non-consecutive weeks at #1, surpassing Morgan Wallen (good!) and now just one week away from tying Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” feat Billy Ray Cyrus…

And isn’t that SOMETHING?!

That the two most popular songs in Billboard history happen to be by Black artists with COUNTRY songs?! And yet, and yet… there are still people out here trying to insist that country music should look and sound a certain way.

What Shaboozey has achieved is impressive, and there is a strong possibility that “A Bar Song” will keep going, because its popularity doesn’t seem to be waning. And of course, he was just nominated for several Grammys which conventionally gives artists a boost. One of those nominations is in the Best New Artist category, and that also includes Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan. There are nine total artists on the list, but it’s undeniable that these three were most dominant in the mainstream, and I’m not sure how you decide between them.

Man of the Year though? Shaboozey, easy.
