I am fond of hyperbole but I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I cried laughing when Seth introduced ‘from Divorce, Sarah Jessica Parker, and from Paddington Bear 2, Hugh Grant!’ It was a belated Christmas present I didn’t know I needed.

First of all, I am generally obsessed with SJP, but I barely noticed she was on my TV – but for due diligence, she is wearing Dolce & Gabbana, and SJP shoes. But you weren’t watching her and neither was I. Because Hugh Grant is here? Not expected, but … sure.

Then the pure comedy of being introduced as being from Paddington Bear 2, which is the first time in a long time, if not ever, that ‘2’ has been uttered at the Golden Globes with a straight face. Then, even more gloriously, that’s not actually the name of the movie!! It’s Paddington 2 - which I think Meyers knew, by the way. But Paddington 2 does not adequately portray the ridiculousness of introducing Hugh Grant being very serious, and the kind of person people used to lose their minds over… a fact that was only underscored when he introduced Dunkirk and informed us, in what I assume was editorializing, that it was “quite rightly nominated for three Golden Globes”.

I loved it so much. All I can think about is him going home from the after-party, drunk after only two scotches, and muttering about it the whole way up in the elevator. “I mean, I understand, obviously, it’s a good joke, ha ha. But I wonder, can it really be considered that funny if the name of the movie was stated incorrectly? I mean if we’re really discussing it. Where’s the bloody room card?”

If you were in that elevator with him, please don’t kill my dreams. Let me believe it to be true.
