The full video of the phone call between Taylor Swift and Kanye West leaked a few days ago, resulting in a gossip revival– during this time of uncertainty, three of the most dramatic pop culture players of our time have come to provide us with a distraction. And it’s not over. Because you know what you can still do while social distancing? Engage in a petty-off with your nemesis.
In Taylor’s case, her nemeses are Kanye and Kim Kardashian. And so, because it wasn’t enough for her to be liking her fans’ Tumblr posts proclaiming that she’d been vindicated, she posted this on Instagram stories yesterday:
“Put me through hell” right now kinda means something different, non? Hyperbole is a tricky thing in these times.
So then Kim responded on Twitter. This is the first tweet in a series because she didn’t bother to thread:

Sorry to bore you all with this. I know you are all dealing with more serious and important matters.
So both of them are out here claiming there are more important matters at hand while slapping at each other and insisting that they’re above it. OK.

Her tweet is actually my favourite because “who did you guys piss off to leak that video” followed by three crying laughing emojis is not typical PR behaviour. But pettiness is infectious. This is the kind of virus I can get behind.
So who’s coming out ahead in this round? Is it Taylor, because she’s made a donation? Kim and Kanye have also made donations to food banks and other charities. Not sure we can say there’s a clear winner. I mean, it’s not like there’s any high ground here to stand on. The high ground is no place for a petty-off. And the petty place is where Kim likes to live. For some reason, Taylor has decided to join her there. And now we’re talking about all of them. We keep talking about all of them. Which is, ultimately, what all of them crave. Kim’s probably the one most likely to admit it though. Are they banking all of this content for the next season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians? Did Taylor Swift just give them a new – but old – storyline?
What’s in store for us tomorrow on the next episode? Is the next episode coming tomorrow? Maybe this has all been a public service – streaming gossip content during the coronavirus pandemic, I want it.
