Taylor Swift was in Dusseldorf last night for the MTV EMAs and won several awards, including the award for Best Artist which… was obvious from the moment she arrived; Taylor Swift is too big to not win the big ones if she bothers to show up. Taylor, after all, has always loved her trophies. She doesn’t do it just for the trophies, of course, but she still really, really enjoys receiving them.
Taylor wore custom David Koma to the event – walking the red carpet in a bodysuit underneath a net skirt tricked out with stones that are meant to look like emeralds. She’s dressed like her song, “Bejeweled”.
She later changed into another David Koma which I’m calling the fanciest golf dress I’ve ever seen.
Taylor’s new album, Midnights, has just been pushed to #2 on the Billboard 200 with the release of Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss. Still, Midnights is the biggest album of 2022, there is no way any other release this year will come even close to her sales, and “Anti-Hero” continues to trend big on TikTok so Midnights will continue to be a dominant force in music through to 2023, right up to when she goes on tour. The Grammys right now are probably begging her to make an appearance.
So far though Taylor has yet to give a live performance of any of the tracks off Midnights. She did not perform live at the MTV EMAs. And it’s not like they wouldn’t have wanted her to. So I wonder if she’s saving it for another occasion. I wonder when that’s coming. The American Music Awards are happening this coming Sunday. Taylor is nominated for several awards. She has not been announced as a performer on the show but there’s no way they haven’t asked, repeatedly. If she wants to be there, they’ll build her a massive stage. So it’s a matter of whether or not she wants to attend (to pick up even more trophies) but even if she does attend it doesn’t mean she’ll actually sing.
But it’s not just the AMAs and the Grammys – at this point, probably everyone has extended an invitation. Including, I would imagine, Saturday Night Live. Taylor was last on SNL last November, delivering an excellent performance of “All Too Well”, the extended version. Keke Palmer will host the next episode of SNL on December 3 with musical guest SZA. But the guest host(s) and the musical guests for the final episode(s) of 2022, including the holiday episode, have yet to be announced. Could Taylor be a possibility?
