Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal are promoting a new Netflix crime show, playing exes and adversaries (she’s a reporter, he’s a cop) investigating a murder. A twisty six-part series is ideal for January binge-watching. Tessa will be at the Golden Globes for a nomination for Hedda (which is also streaming, in Canada it’s on Prime). Both of these projects are under her production company, Viva Maude, so she’s been busy on the work front.

Then there’s the style angle; she works with Karla Welch and is always one to watch.  Her look from the Balenciaga show in December is so good, click through the album to see the full shape, the sequins almost look like bubbles.  And that wasn’t even her best December look! Check out the pink, black and red Diotima gown she wore to the Critics’ Choice Association’s 8th annual celebration of Black cinema and television – crazy good. Last one is from Chanel; the boxy 80s jacket and square toe, such a cool take.

There is no social media detective work I could do that would possibly compare to the Hollanov Army but fashion houses and producers are clicking that Follow button on both Connor and Hudson’s social media feeds. I’m particularly interested in the fashion angle because you know there is a rush to sign them to a campaign – who will get there first? Marc Jacobs and Calvin Klein (via the artistic director) are in the mix, but Donatella Versace posting about the cottage in her Stories could be a hint of what’s to come.

We’ve been talking about Bruno Mars this week (well, I have) the album and tour announcement is another indication of how quietly he moves. No surprise drop, no mystery, no holding out for different vinyl variants. He’s just like ya, here’s my new song now go stream it one billion times.

Most of us do not care what celebrities eat, even though celebrities constantly want to tell us what to eat. Tom Brady was an elite QB so obviously he had a whole regimen which involved not eating strawberries or tomatoes or something. He also had a meal plan service. Now that he’s out of the game, maybe he’s loosened up and started to enjoy food. So much so that he’s starring in… Pizza Hut commercials. This kind of selling out is not new and not even a thing anymore-- many athletes have done fast food commercials (Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky did McDonald’s commercials, multiple active NHL players do Tim Hortons commercials in Canada). What’s a bit different about Tom is that he spent years actively marketing his lifestyle through meal plans and supplements. He was the golden boy and the gold standard of discipline and athleticism. It’s not even about whether or not he actually eats it, it’s about the very severe shift in his brand. And it also begs the question we ask so often of so many celebrities: when is enough money, enough? Like there is no way Tom Brady needs Pizza Hut money!
