Teyana Taylor is one of the most sexy and talented women on this earth, facts are facts. In what seemed to be a night full of firsts, Teyana performed on the BET Awards stage for the very first time. This performance also marks her grand return to music after a five year hiatus. 

 

To no one’s surprise, she ate up the stage, giving us total Missy Elliott-esque futuristic visuals with some of the tightest choreography I’ve seen on an awards show stage this year. She performed her latest single “Long Time” along with an unreleased track that is expected to be featured on her upcoming album Escape Room.

 

 

Emerging amid an ocean of flames, Teyana is dressed head-to-toe in red as Taraji P. Henson appears as a surprise guest in the performance as narrator uttering the words “even love is something you must escape” – definitely an Easter egg for the upcoming visual album. 

 

Teyana is a woman of concept, every little word and breath of this performance was done with precision and intention. The performance went from fiery to futuristic for the second half of the performance when she changed into a new silver metallic ensemble with her dancers turning into robots as she dances mid-air. Truly a student of the greats, Teyana’s showmanship is comparable to that of Janet and Beyoncé, she just for some reason hasn’t gotten the respect she deserves. Here’s hoping that this next era of music for her can change things.

 

If you caught the video to the new single “Long Time” you’ll know that her new boyfriend Aaron Pierre (also known as Mufasa) makes an appearance. While he didn’t join the actual stage performance, he was in the crowd cheering his lady on. By now, we’ve all seen the birthday kiss, right? Frankly, it almost feels illegal for two of the most gorgeous people on the planet to be together but here we are. The two didn’t walk the red carpet prior to the ceremony but were seen sitting arm in arm later in the show as Mariah Carey earned her Icon award with Teyana looking angelic in white and Aaron looking straight out of Men in Black. I mean that in the best way, however it does seem like a crime for him to be hiding those gorgeous eyes of his.
