The Penguin is halfway through its run and it’s a hit for HBO (probably, we’re taking HBO at their word regarding their ratings).
With New York Comic Con happening this weekend, stars Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti appeared on a panel yesterday, alongside their co-stars including Clancey Brown, Deirdre O’Connell, and Michael Kelly. Mostly, I’m here for Colin Farrell, always a good start to a Friday when he shows up. But I’m also here for Cristin Milioti, who is chewing so much scenery in The Penguin I’m surprised she has any teeth left. She goes chomp chomp every time Sofia Falcone shows up on screen.
I don’t think I’m ever going to get over the complete transformation of Colin Farrell into the Penguin, but the way Milioti disappears behind crazy eyes and a tight smile is equally impressive. She doesn’t have anywhere to hide, no prosthetics or exaggerated physicality, and yet her character transformation feels as sharp as Farrell’s. They are an extremely well-matched pair on screen. They also really seem to admire and like the hell out of each other in real life, which is why I am gossip genie’ing them together. Am I alone in this? Or are we all lowkey rooting for Colin + Cristin to happen?
