I was SO excited when I heard that The Weeknd was dropping a remix of “Save Your Tears” with Ariana Grande. The song came out early this morning and just as expected, it is amazing. Here’s the music video!
The original “Save Your Tears” from his album After Hours was already a great song. So if it was another singer hopping on to the track, maybe we would be asking, why even bother? But The Weeknd and Ariana’s voices are simply meant to be together. There’s no other way to put it. “Love Me Harder”? Bop. “off the table”? Another bop. It’s the sultry tone they share, and when you put them together, the combination is sexy and powerful.
And that is exactly what we were expecting. The song’s bouncy beat that makes it impossible to not dance is still there. Ariana’s signature whistle notes and “ooh’s” made appearances, and she even had her own verse and chorus. Don’t even get me started on the angelic whistle notes. Gorgeous.
Since we all wish that their voices could be married together somehow, the hype leading up to the release was all over Twitter. The little teasers we got during the week made it feel like today would never come...
I LOVE it when celebrities feed off of their fans’ energy. Also can we talk about the cover art? Love it.
So while I love The Weeknd’s first version, duets make the fan experience (and karaoke) more fun. And now I wonder if this remix is going to take precedence over the original. At the very least, it extends the influence of both the song and The Weeknd’s album.
It also looks like we’re going to have a battle of the remixes, because Miley Cyrus and The Kid LAROI are dropping a remix of “Without You” next Friday. We already got to hear a little bit of it in a hilarious TikTok Miley made, and it sounds good. Since Kid LAROI is a newbie, The Weeknd and Ariana Grande have a little more fan power. But since “Without You” has made it to the charts, Miley might be able to give it that extra boost like what her dad did for Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”.
