Dear Gossips,   

I’ve never watched The Bachelor or Love Is Blind or any of the super popular reality dating shows. The two that Jacek and I do watch together – and he might actually be more into them than I am! – are Singles Inferno and Love Island USA. 

 

I just realised that they air during opposite seasons, fittingly. Singles Inferno happens in the winter (in North America), and it’s more of a slow burn. In fact, it might not actually get to burn levels because Koreans are culturally more modest with how they perform romance, at least on camera. Love Island, on the other hand, takes place during summer heat (in North America) and westerners are muuuuuuch less culturally modest with how they perform romance. There is groping and saliva exchange happening sometimes within the first half hour of the first episode. And this season of Love Island USA is the wildest and most dramatic ever and Casa Amor has been pure mess. Which… frankly… is why it’s so entertaining. These people understand the assignment and even though they say they’re there to find love, that’s not the top priority. The top priority is to be good TV. 

 

That’s also Maria’s theory about Aaron, who’s been on reality TV in the UK before. So she thinks Aaron isn’t necessarily on Love Island USA for love, but to secure his next show: Below Deck. He is, after all, a deckhand on the outside. There is no way he’s maintaining a relationship with any of these women, be it Kaylor or Daniella, once he’s done with Love Island. Might as well play the romantic villain and cause all kinds of chaos and let that be your audition for the show you really want to be on. 

 

Anyway, back to Casa Amor and the escalating betrayals that are happening – there’s no better time than now for a postcard. The postcard and movie night are the two most savage features of Love Island. It’s only been two days and Kaylor is already broken from not being with Aaron. Imagine what’s going to happen if/when she gets a postcard? 

Also imagine all the ways Liv will f-ck Aaron up when he gets back to the villa? This is actually the thing I’m most excited about. Liv is a beast, she will annihilate that boy. Maybe this is why I try to limit myself on how much reality dating TV I consume. It brings out the worst in me. 

 

Let me change up the flavour then – we’ll keep the sex and the thirst, but we don’t have to feel bad about it. Are we all watching The Acolyte? For the plot, sure sure. But also for the Manny Jacinto!

Finally, a programming update: there will be no posts tomorrow, we will be dark, and returning to regular schedule on Monday. Have a great long weekend, Americans!
