I posted last about Cardi B a few weeks ago, when she and Offset took family and friends to Paris to celebrate Kulture’s birthday. At the time, there were rumours that she might be pregnant again. Then followed rumours that he’s cheating again.
Yesterday TMZ published new pictures of Cardi in New York wearing baggy clothes and her team trying to shield her from being photographed. And now today, Page Six with the exclusive that Cardi has filed for divorce, TMZ corroborated it shortly afterwards. Both Page Six and TMZ’s sources are saying infidelity has nothing to do with it, that they have grown apart, and it was a long time coming. That last part definitely tracks. I’ve written before about how Cardi’s 20s were defined by fame and one romantic relationship. When you get to your 30s, your outlook changes, your worldview is different, and you become more practical where love is concerned. Love is work, sometimes very hard work, and oftentimes not romantic at all. But you don’t realise this without some life experience.
This, then, probably isn’t surprising for anyone. And it won’t be surprising if it doesn’t stick, considering we’ve been watching this back and forth and on and off show for years now. It is interesting to me though the timing. Because, again, those pregnancy rumours…
Cardi is said to be working on a new album that might drop later this year, although she’s changed her mind about this twice already over the last few months. Right now then she could be managing an album, a third child (if the rumours are indeed true), and a divorce. It’s a LOT to handle, and if the saying goes, something’s gotta give, it’s telling that what she decided to let go of is her husband.
