Despite being nominated as a producer in the Best Picture category, Tom Cruise was a no-show at the Oscars. I wonder if Jimmy Kimmel knew that, or if it was a late-stage decision, because his intro transitioned from a bit about him ejecting from Maverick’s jet, and it kind of seemed like he was looking to play off Tom being in the audience, but Tom wasn’t there, so the intro was kind of awkward.
But Top Gun: Maverick was still well represented, with Jennifer Connelly on hand—in another great gown by Louis Vuitton, I swear she is to LV as Kristen Stewart is to Chanel—along with the “young guns”: Wife Guy Miles Teller, Monica Barbaro—in the second best Elie Saab number of the night—Jay Ellis, Greg Tarzan Davis, Danny Ramirez, Lewis Pullman, and Chicago hometown hero Charles Parnell (aka Warlock).
Can we just take one last moment to acknowledge how wildly hot this cast is? And we don’t even have Jon Hamm and Glen Powell, who is currently filming a rom-com with Sydney Sweeney in Australia, in the group. But damn, this is a good-looking bunch of people.
Also, Lewis Pullman’s devotion to the string tie is endearing. And Danny Ramirez is getting ready to shoot Captain America: New World Order this summer, thus the shorter hair. He’ll debut in that film as the new Falcon, since Sam Wilson is now Captain America. Meanwhile, Greg Tarzan Davis must have made a good impression on Tom Cruise, because he’s in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
Finally, take a moment to behold the splendor of Jay Ellis. That man looks younger now than he did when Insecure started.
