Victoria Beckham multimedia
Victoria Beckham’s new collection is the last show on the schedule today at Paris Fashion Week. She’s presenting at 8pm local time and was seen leaving the hotel to make the final touches. David, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper Seven have all also been photographed in Paris over the last couple of days, and they will no doubt be in attendance to support. No sign of Brooklyn or Nicola, though that was to be expected. Frankly they’re missing out. On what? Attention, obviously. Let’s not pretend they don’t want any.
Because the Beckhams are about to be centered in the spotlight again, starting on the runway tonight. From the catwalk to the television, the Victoria documentary arrives on Netflix next Thursday 9 October and given the success of David’s series, Victoria’s should see the same results. At the very least, it will be a conversation, it will be on the front page, and two people will be excluded from the narrative.
David has said that Victoria had to be convinced to do it, because of course her priority and preoccupation, for well over a decade, almost two now, has been her fashion house. So it was made clear, from the outset, that the docuseries would focus on Victoria’s work as a designer. We don’t need to revisit their marital challenges, the scandals of the past in their personal lives – all this was covered two years ago when David was profiled. Victoria is here to show her work. And to SHOW OFF, period.
Because there were doubters, both benign and malicious. But she persisted, to the point where the brand is finally profitable and Tom Ford and Anna Wintour agreed to be in this doc?!
LOL at the fact that the Anna Wintour clip they chose for this preview is her sounding so disapproving that Victoria and her team did not seem to be on schedule. But I do like that, at least from the trailer, they’re talking about the money – because the money has been part of the snarky reporting from the British tabloids about the viability of Victoria’s efforts. We’ll have to see just how detailed they get about their finances once the three episodes drop next week but part of the reason why David’s series was so well-received is that they were willing to explore the difficult parts. And include the relatively unfiltered dynamic that has kept David and Victoria together. Here, with Victoria as the main character, we have an idea already that her charm, the sense of humour behind the hard posing we all want to get more of, is definitely represented. For a long time it’s been known behind the scenes that Victoria IRL is all personality – quick, self-deprecating, harmlessly sly, and a blast to be around.
I want that to come alive in this doc, so that a new generation to finally appreciate her for the fun c-nt she really is and those who’ve been here since the beginning can once again say, we told you so.
