Dear Gossips,

One of the reasons Anna Wintour stepped down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue was to focus on Vogue World, which has become a major priority for her after the Met Gala.

After events in New York, London, and Paris, Vogue World took over the Paramount Studios yesterday for Vogue World Hollywood, a celebration of the intersection between fashion and film. Seems fitting too since it was just five days before Halloween. And, of course, clothing is a costume in film and television. Ruth E Carter is one of the most acclaimed costume designers in the business, a double Oscar winner for her work on Black Panther and Wakanda Forever, and the first Black woman to win multiple awards in any category. In her honour, and an honour herself, Angela Bassett walked the runway last night as Queen Ramonda.

And Okoye was there too, as Danai Gurira returned to Wakanda with new recruit, Teyana Taylor. I mean, if there’s anyone who would qualify for immediate membership in the Dora Milaje, it’s Teyana.

The costumes from Black Panther were showcased as part of the Afrofuturism section of the event that also served as a tribute to Ruth’s designs. Here’s Jodie Turner-Smith wearing the sh-t out of a Diotima bodysuit (by Rachel Scott, the 2024 Womenswear Designer of the Year). If I had that body I would wear sparkly fishnet legwarmers every day.

There were a number of films that were referenced during the show, including Dune. This is Zendaya’s costume from the movie, like I said it was high fashion Halloween.

We’ll talk more about Vogue World Hollywood later but just want to end on one of my favourites from the night… because I will forever and ever ride hard for Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. And check out Julia Garner in one of Kirsten Dunst’s costumes from the film, perfectly capturing the punk rock anachronistic mood of that movie:

This also works as promotion, because Julia is supposed to play Madonna in the biopic, and if you weren’t already convinced, her performance last night should pretty much put any and all doubt to rest.

Note: You can see all the looks from the event at Vogue as it appears they had this on lockdown from most photos agencies attending.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
