Dear Gossips,

One of the biggest stories out of the weekend, at least on my feeds, is that Vice President Kamala Harris was on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. Alex explained that while this is not typically the kind of content that the pod is known for, “… at the end of the day, I couldn't see a world in which one of the main conversations in this election is women and I'm not a part of it”.

She also revealed that she and her team also extended an invitation to the other person running for President of the United States to “have a meaningful, in-depth conversation about women’s rights in this country.” Not surprisingly, the self-described “protector of women”, did not accept.

Some people are big mad at Alex for having VP Harris on her show. Call Her Daddy is one of the most popular podcasts in the world, with over 5 million downloads each week and, most importantly, for women aged 18-24, this is what they’re listening to, more than any other program. And these are issues that Alex Cooper has taken to them on this episode: reproductive justice and women’s health care – specifically abortion care and access. With many who are considering voting for the first time. This is the reach and the potential. So … that’s part of the reason they’re big mad.

But the Harris campaign has been, ever since she announced her candidacy, engaging this demographic – intentionally and unintentionally. “Brat” was unintentional, Call Her Daddy, however, is very much intentional. And the media blitz will continue this week on more traditional outlets. The Vice President will be on Howard Stern and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday. Both of those shows skew older than Call Her Daddy so, with exactly four week to go until election day, the Harris team is trying to reach as many voters across as many demographics as they can with their message. It’ll be interesting to see, though, once the numbers are in, what the turnout will be particularly with voters under 30.
