This Is Real, This Is Demi + Joe
The Jonas Brothers kicked off their 52-city Greetings from Your Hometown tour at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey last night and pulled out all the stops you could think of. Jesse McCartney even came out halfway through for a rendition of “Beautiful Soul”.
With a rich setlist of 30+ songs spanning their collective solo and band discographies, they left fans on a high; and then, you can imagine that just when fans thought the peak of the show was over the surprise and collective shockwave in the audience when Demi Lovato showed up on stage was nothing short of spectacular.
Demi performed the duets “This Is Me” and “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” from the Camp Rock film franchise alongside Joe Jonas, both her co-star in the films and her ex-boyfriend. They dated back in 2010 but once the fans have a past relationship ingrained in their mind, that sh-t just never leaves. That’s 50K+ people in their 30s automatically getting transported back to their teen years for ten glorious minutes. The things I would have done to be present for this moment, I can’t even describe. Plus, given the insane wave of nostalgic moments in pop culture recently, there’s no better time for this Camp Rock reunion.

Demi popped up on stage in a sparkling bra and pants set looking as fierce as she has been presenting in recent weeks. The launch of her latest single “Fast” has her embracing her sexuality and confidence in a big way, and from the looks of her performance last night, that also means healing old wounds. Demi married Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes back in May and has been beaming positive energy ever since. Jordan was by her side last night at the show, cheering her on from the audience. Clearly, he recognizes that he married a Disney Channel legend, and last night was his chance to see her shine completely in her power. It’s also no secret that Demi has a romantic history with both Joe and Nick Jonas, so being able to put the past aside to create a pop culture moment for the fans shows a kind of growth on Demi’s end that only comes with time. Demi first fueled rumors of a reunion of sorts when she followed Nick Jonas on social media over the weekend after she had unfollowed him all the way back in 2018, sending fans into a frenzy about if something was brewing or if it was just a case of Twitter fingers.
Clearly the fan intuition was correct because in the words of Disney Channel icon Debby Ryan – the two wanted to make history, and that’s what this is.
All of last night’s Disney madness brings us to the pinnacle which is whether there will be a Camp Rock 3 and if Joe and Demi will be a part of it should it happen. The rumor mill has been buzzing about a Camp Rock 3 film being in development as recently as last June, and with this new reunion between Demi, Joe, and the rest of the brothers, it only adds fuel to the fire. Some fans are speculating that the two will have a cameo in the film as part of a passing of the torch moment to the new generation. Whatever the truth is, the fact is that the characters of Mitchie and Shane are beloved by an entire generation of music and movie lovers, and getting to see them together again in any form is something to be celebrated.
