We haven’t seen too much of Michaela Coel this year so the sight of her on a red carpet is always welcome. Especially when the fit is this good. I LOVE the asymmetry of her look with the different lengths and the different materials – like if you see her from different angles, it could be another outfit altogether.
And the choice of footwear is perfect too. Flat black platform boots instead of a heel; she’s giving action pop star vibes, and I’m so glad she decided to go without jewellery. There’s enough detail going on in the clothes themselves, we don’t need any more embellishment.
That was Michaela at the London Film Festival. Next we head over to LA and Marisa Tomei at the Family Equality Gala. I just really like this printed suit. I like the length of the jacket, the way she’s worn it over nothing, and the cut of these pants. And how the pointed booties peek out from below. It’s business chic, and while we’re here we should note that Marisa’s been bringing it lately because earlier this month she was in an all-black jumpsuit situation with sheer sleeves and a sweetheart neckline that was also excellent.
Finally, Issa Rae in New York this morning in a matching cream set, classic and luxe. The sweater dress with the silver belt is gorgeous and I’m especially into how the ribbing around the collar goes is horizontal to offset the vertical direction on the rest of the body. And then the wool jacket on top with the white boots is just a beautiful finishing touch.
When the kids say that someone looks expensive? This is what they mean.
