Saoirse and Jack: Never mind about Bond!

Every two weeks there’s a fresh rumour about who will be the next Bond. But it’s not really all that fresh because every “new” story about the new Bond always recycles the same names that have been speculated about for months. One of those names is Jack Lowden who was seen this week out in London with our beloved Saoirse Ronan.

Saoirse and Jack welcomed their first child about a year ago. We do not know exactly when the baby was born but they were seen with a pram during the first half of September 2025. We also don’t know the sex or the name of the child, because they’re private like that and they actually mean it.

What we do know, however, is that Saoirse’s been working. She plays Linda McCartney in all four of Sam Mendes’s Beatles biopics that will be released in 2028 and she’s also one of the incestuous sisters in the film adaption of Audrey Niffenegger’s illustrated book The Three Incestuous Sisters that recently wrapped production. Get ready for the algorithm to malfunction when this film, if this film, gets released. I mean, it should based on the cast alone – Saoirse’s sisters are played by Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson, and Josh O’Connor’s along for the ride. If you know the book, you also know it’s kinda batsh-t. This story has everything: sabotage, jealousy, telepathy, mythical children, and a circus. Not kidding. But the film will be black and white and mostly silent. It’ll be a while before we see it but are we all already screaming???

As for Jack – enough about Bond, I care less about Bond than I do about season six of Slow Horses which premieres in exactly two weeks on September 16, Jackson Lamb hive, how are we doing?! I love everything about the trailer, and yes of course the reveal that a certain character is back which I feel like we always expected. But it’s the tone of it, the biting lines, including the one about Jack’s character River’s name, LOL. And also when Roddy picks up the phone. Amazing for Christopher Chung that he gets to be a fuckass tool like Roddy and also Harry Beecham in My Brilliant Career.

Plus… Rosalind Eleazar, aka Louisa, is back. Don’t sleep on Rosalind – September might be the beginning of a movement for her because in addition to Slow Horses, she’s also the star of Chris Rock’s new film, Misty Green, world premiering at TIFF. People are buzzzing about this movie. It’s a Hollywood story, it’s an actor’s story, it is a Rosalind Eleazar making noise in the Oscar race. There were some people who were confused last year about why she wasn’t in season five of Slow Horses and whether or not that was a strategic error. All you have to do is watch the trailer to know that it was far, far, far from a mistake.

In almost every East Asian romantic drama, there’s a scene involving cherry blossoms – our main couple will walk along a cherry blossom lined path, and they’ll be lit better than JLo, and sometimes they will kiss but sometimes they’ll just hold hands, and we will all swoon. A scene like this could have been shot in Washington DC but, um, the current administration seems to want to change that. Which makes sense. It’s not like they understand romance. (The Mary Sue)
