Not that there was any question that Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Davino were over but PEOPLE yesterday published an exclusive about her calling off her engagement with a source telling the magazine that:

"She's not ready to settle down. They only lasted for this long because it was hard for her to break it off. They didn't split because there is no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now."

I buy all of this. I totally buy that “it was hard for her to break it off”. She’s younger, she’s got a lot more going on, she came into big success after their engagement, and it’s difficult to let go of the things that were there before – there can be guilt involved, and not wanting to disappoint someone, and convincing yourself that it can work even though you don’t really believe it… which is why the split comes in stages instead of all at once. Obviously I don’t know that that’s exactly how it went down, but this is also not unfamiliar territory.

In addition to the PEOPLE report, TMZ is also claiming an exclusive - that Sydney and Jonathan have not been “together romantically” since January. In February is when she started living in a hotel instead of at the home they shared. So the timeline tracks: she gave herself a couple of months to process the reality and now it’s a new season and she’s ready to make “single” a part of her celebrity.

As for what’s going on with Glen Powell – here he is arriving in New York alone amid speculation about their relationship. I wrote in my post yesterday that this has been fun, that the idea of Glen and Sydney is good gossip even though there’s really nothing solid to suggest that they’re actually a thing. And now his mother Cyndy has chimed in with the facts. Cyndy says that Glen and Sydney are “definitely not together” and that she was at her daughter Leslie’s wedding with a friend. And also that she and her family consider Sydney a “friend”:

“We love Sydney. We’ve considered her just a really, really good friend. We all were together so much, and we haven’t seen her in a long time. She’s really a friend and we all enjoy her.”

You know what I’m more confused about though? Why is Cyndy telling this to the Daily Mail?! They’re calling it an “extraordinary tell-all phone call”. Like, I appreciate that Glen doesn’t mind the game and willingly plays it but I’m not sure his media savvy has extended to his mother because, like, is it a great look for the Daily Mail to be able to claim access to one of his parents?!

I wonder if Glen’s publicist’s day just got a little busier, LOL, because I can’t imagine that they would have signed off on a phone call between Cyndy and the Daily f-cking Mail to shut down a story that wasn’t a problem to begin with.
