Intro for July 31, 2025

Dear Gossips,   

A sequel to The Social Network is in development, said to be a top priority for the studio. Back in 2010, the first film was nominated for eight Oscars, winning three, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin. He has now written the follow-up and will direct it himself. 

This time the story is about what Facebook became and how the company was well aware of the damage that it was doing, its impact on young minds, and its role in the insurrection that happened in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021… but made no meaningful attempts to address the damage. The focus will be on two characters: Frances Haugen who exposed Facebook’s own findings about the sinister effects of their platform to the Securities and Exchange Commission, and a journalist on the Wall Street Journal investigative reporting team that broke the Facebook Files. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sorkin has been in talks with Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White to play these roles. Mikey Madison is the reigning Best Actress Oscar winner for her performance in Anora back in March. Since then, instead of taking a victory lap, she’s been relatively quiet. Haven’t seen her at many events, she doesn’t ever get papped, and she only steps out for ambassadorship duties, most recently a Tiffany party earlier this month. 

This is unusual for someone of her generation, and we saw this during the Anora press tour and subsequent Oscar campaign. She showed up at all the stops, no doubt, but she has no public social media presence, and in comparison to the other actors and celebrities we could consider to be in her cohort, she’s relatively low-key. Which means she’s perfect for this part, if indeed she is confirmed for the film. Because she’ll be playing someone behind the scenes, a data scientist, whose role is not front-facing. But also, as an actor, since we don’t know that much about her and no unnecessary information is provided, as viewers we’re not carrying any assumptions about her when we watch her. Mikey’s approach to her celebrity is almost… old-fashioned.
