Dear Gossips,

Not sure what your algorithm is looking like but over the weekend I started seeing so many clips from Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice, and they weren’t from the trailers, which was confusing because the film doesn’t open until Christmas. Turns out there was a leak and there’s a whole generation of people out there who don’t worry about the consequences of pretty much flaunting the fact that they watched something that wasn’t meant to be seen in the way they saw it. I’m not here to talk about piracy though – I’m here to talk about the film, and I how much I love it, one of my favourites of the year, top five for sure.

No Other Choice is now getting a one night IMAX release on December 8 in select markets and if you are in one of those markets, and if you were already intending to see this movie, get there, it’s worth it. Park Chan-wook’s films are always beautifully shot, and intentionally shot. The way shots are framed add to the story, tell their own story. The timing of each shot, and the movement of the camera enhances the story. IMAX is where you can fully appreciate it.

No Other Choice is contending for a Best International Feature nomination at the Oscars, it’s one of the most acclaimed films of the year, it would indeed be a surprise if we don’t hear it called out on nomination day.

Last week in Korea, Son Ye-jin won the Best Actress award at the Blue Dragon Film Festival for her performance in No Other Choice while her husband, Hyun Bin, also a superstar, won Best Actor; it was the first time in the event’s history that this has happened. I posted about it at the time, how exciting the moment was especially for K-drama fans because they do not perform their relationship in public and then…

Ye-jin actually shared photos of herself with Hyun Bin, on the grid! It’s not the main photo but the gold is in flipping through the carousel.

Thank you for the biscuits, mom and dad!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
