A Benito and Cardi Bowl?
The Benito Bowl is now just four sleeps away. Bad Bunny’s press conference happens tomorrow, where he will no doubt be asked about his plans for the show and he will try not to reveal anything about his plans for the show. He will also most likely be asked about winning the biggest Grammy of them all, Album of the Year, just a few days ago.
For days there’s been all kinds of speculation about who might be joining Bad Bunny’s mini-concert on Sunday night. We know, for sure, that it will be a celebration of Latin music, a loving representation of Puerto Rico, but will Benito do this alone or will he involve others?
At the top of the list, at least according to the people who’ve been placing prop bets, is Cardi B. And it makes sense. Cardi will for sure be in the stadium in support of Stefon Diggs. She’s also still in her album cycle for Am I The Drama, which is why she was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Her Little Miss Drama tour kicks off a week today, and the first top is in California so she’s definitely performance ready at this point. And of course, there’s “I Like It”, her song with Bad Bunny and J Balvin which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018. This was Benito’s first #1 hit on the chart, and at the time, he was just two years into his career. In a statement released to Billboard when “I Like It” topped the chart, Benito said that:
“Well, I just started my career two years ago and achieving things like that only make me think about the next step, the next goal, that I will never run out, I WILL NEVER STOP DREAMING. To say that the best two things of all this is with the people that share this achievement, I love that this has happened with Cardi and J Balvin, and the other was to be able to wear the shirt of the baseball team of my country PUERTO RICO! So that the world knows that I’m a BORICUA! Latino Gang!!! I already understand why Trump wants to build a wall, it is because he knows that Latinos will conquer the world and he is afraid!!!”
Presumably, then, “I Like It” means a lot to all three of these artists – and for Cardi in particular, she wanted to include the track on her first album because she was specifically looking for a song that reflected her Latin heritage.
“I Like It” is a f-cking banger, it was played non-stop for two years right up to the pandemic, almost everyone knows it, and if Bad Bunny wants to throw a party on Sunday at the Benito Bowl, this for sure would pop off. And that’s also why anyone betting on Cardi to show up on that stage probably isn’t making that much money from it if/when she does.
In other Cardi news, to circle back to Stefon Diggs, he was asked yesterday if he’s going to propose to Cardi – flip through the carousel below to see his response.
Not that I’m here to piss Cardi off because she does not like when people get too invested in her business (even though she’s often on social media sharing her business) and it’s really none of anyone’s business but… um… as a fan, I really hope she gives it a minute. There’s already enough going on and, well, this man is messy. Cardi might perform at the Benito Bowl for the first time. She’s about to headline her first tour. She just had her fourth child like three months ago. Let that be enough for now.
