Dear Gossips,

Kendrick Lamar, on volume, was the Grammys biggest winner last night, sweeping all five categories in which he was nominated, including two of what’s considered to be the big four Grammys, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

The song, obviously, is “Not Like Us”. And if there was any doubt about its impact in 2024, listen to the way the crowd shouted out “A minorrrrrrrr” when he was called up:

“Not Like Us” is now the most awarded rap song in Grammys history. And yet, that might not even be the final bullet. Because of course Kendrick’s getting up on an arguably bigger stage in six days in New Orleans at the Super Bowl where he’ll be the halftime headliner and there was never a world in which this track, his most successful, wouldn’t be on the set list. Now it’s the crown jewel of the set list, legitimately, officially, Grammily.

That said, Kendrick isn’t just doing the Super Bowl to dunk on Drake. That’s a temporary satisfaction. He’s also heading out on tour, his first stadium tour. Last time I checked, a few weeks ago at the start of the year, the tour is not yet sold out. As of this morning, there are a lot of tickets still available in LA. To be fair, there are few artists like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift who can fill stadiums within minutes of tickets going on sale, especially since concert tickets are now so disgustingly expensive. Almost everyone else other than those two has to market and hustle, generate hype and interest. So it’s definitely possible that by the end of the Grand National Tour in June, each venue will be at capacity and they can call it sold out. But this is also why the Grammys and, more importantly, the Super Bowl are so critical – to boost enthusiasm for Grand National and establish Kendrick as, indeed, a stadium tour artist to go along with all those other distinctions. Something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months.

More Grammys coverage will follow today on the site.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
