Dear Gossips,

“Maybe Jesus will save her from those Buddhists.”

Every time Parker Posey says anything in The White Lotus season three, I scream. And that line from last night’s episode was another screamer. I’ve been in a coma since I got back from Korea but in my awake hours, the first order of business was to catch up on the two episodes I missed when I was away and last night’s new one, in which Parker’s Victoria Ratliffe, without her Lorazepam and hitting the bottle instead, rattles off increasingly unhinged (and hilarious) observations/ questions/ statements, one after another.

Much has been made about her accent, and it is indeed the accent. But it’s also…like… her face, her mouth. It’s the way she keeps her lips always downturned while never being able to distinguish between various Asian territories…

Now that the season is almost over it seems silly to say this now but we needn’t have worried about the Jennifer Coolidge hole that would be missing from this season. It’s an injustice to both actresses to make comparisons, no doubt, and that is not my intention. What I’m trying to say, inarticulately, is that the comedy is there in the form of yet another Christopher Guest alumna.

Parker Posey is spectacular. And I wonder whether or not Mike White will bring her back for season four (which was greenlit a couple months ago) like he brought back Jennifer’s Tanya for season two. Because even though we don’t yet know who gets killed this season, I can’t imagine Victoria will die, there is – in my opinion – no way she will die. And the way it works with The White Lotus, one person, sometimes two, inevitably goes onto the next resort. Can’t you see it being Victoria… or maybe Chelsea?

Speaking of Jennifer Coolidge, though, she’s been more booked and busier than ever since her time at The White Lotus. Here she is at the Minecraft premiere in London yesterday. I will not be seeing this movie, but everyone I know with a kid will be.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
