Dark Winds joins the spring drama spree
Dark Winds season three premieres Sunday night, in what is now a hyperactive TV viewing time, between Severance (depressing but mostly excellent), The White Lotus (I hope the Ratliffs get eaten by sharks), Daredevil: Born Again (I bet Vincent D’Onofrio gets some nominations out of this), and The Pitt. Are you watching The Pitt? Doctors think it’s super realistic which is somehow MORE depressing than anything Severance has come up with so far. I find it deeply stressful but compelling in the same way peak ER was (the presence of Noah Wyle only aids the ER comparisons, which by the way, Michael Crichton’s estate is suing HBO/Max over The Pitt being, as they say, an “unauthorized ER reboot”).
But Dark Winds remains one of my pleasure shows, a show I just refuse to turn into work, because I get so much pure pleasure from watching Zahn McClarnon do his leading man thing. The season three premiere was last night in New York, and McClarnon turned up looking handsome as ever. Slight Crow Daddy vibes going on.
It is a CRIME that McClarnon and this series at large has not received ANY major awards nominations after two excellent seasons. Will the third season be the charm? It took three seasons for the Emmys to catch up to Reservation Dogs, after all. Maybe the same will prove true for Zahn McClarnon and Dark Winds. One can hope.
What else happened today…
When I saw this headline, at first glance I thought it said Advice on how to fight women, but it ACTUALLY says ACTIVISTS on how to fight FOR women. Stacey Abrams and other activists share their advice on how to advocate for women, just in time for Women’s History Month (and, like, all the anti-woman crap going down in the world). (Popsugar)
A red carpet retrospective for Monica Barbaro’s Oscar run. I think she needs a new stylist. (Go Fug Yourself)
Angela Bassett on losing the Oscar to Jamie Lee Curtis: I didn’t think that was a gift. I thought it was a given. The Academy must have agreed, because they gave her an honorary Oscar the very next year. Also, thanks to 9-1-1, she is one of the highest paid actresses of color in television history. Ryan Murphy annoys me on several levels, but never on this—he is one producer who is consistently creating good to great work for women of a certain age, he gives opportunities to women Hollywood doesn’t always serve well. That might end up being his legacy, in the end. (Celebitchy)
The new Hulu series Deli Boys follows two Pakistani-American brothers who inherit their family’s deli business in Philadelphia…and a drug empire to boot. It’s about the American Dream, y’all! We are in the midst of a spring drama spree, but this is a good reminder to find some time for a new comedy, too. (Eater)
