Intro for August 21, 2025
Dear Gossips,
Emmys voting is now underway and will continue until next Wednesday 27 August. As I mentioned earlier this week, this is a competitive year across pretty much all the major categories, including Outstanding Drama Series. In its freshman year, The Pitt has come out to challenge high-profile favourites like Severance and The White Lotus, which no one could have predicted at the start of the year.
And The Pitt campaign was smart and strategic yesterday, releasing a teaser for season two even though production just started in June, they’re still filming, and the show isn’t back until January 2026.

Tramell Tillman’s campaign has also been operating at a high level. And they need to be because the Supporting Actor Drama category is stacked. Tramell’s Severance co-stars Zach Cherry and John Turturro are both nominated, as are three actors from The White Lotus – Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Sam Rockwell. Plus James Marsden for his performance in Paradise.
According to the odds, Walton is in the lead right now Tramell and Sam aren’t too far behind. So Tramell has been making his case, covering Variety last week…
…and then a surprise appearance at a screening of Zoolander with Ben Stiller, reviving his now iconic marching band routine.
If you watch Severance, you have watched Tramell Tillman’s exhilarating range as an actor, the way he delivers all his word salads, how his body illuminates his character’s complications and inner turmoil. The way he can transition between Milchick’s trademark self-control and disdain to instant rage and impatience. And, sometimes, he can do all that while dancing. Tramell is leaning into the dancing and marching band thing, but not at the expense of his other gifts. Don’t forget about “devour feculence” and what this man can do with dialogue!
Yesterday there was some well-timed casting news: he’s joining the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s an Emmys campaign that gives you everything!
Season two was a wonderful showcase for Tramell Tillman’s abilities. As Nicholas Quah writes in a new piece at Vulture, “Severance doesn’t work without Milchick” and remember, this is, allegedly, a supporting character.
Did you know that this is the only Emmys acting category that has never had a Black winner? Tramell could make history as the first openly gay Black actor to be named outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama. And I can’t wait to see what he’s wearing.
He was understated elegance the other day at the Television Academy event in linen:

But he can also do it in a skirt and a mesh tank in Thom Browne:

Tramell wore Thom Browne to the Met Gala back in May. Will be interesting to see if Thom Browne dresses him for the Emmys.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
