Dear Gossips,

This is Shaboozey at the CMA Awards last night where his fashion theme of the night was green. Repping Elphaba at the country show? He wore a mint green suit on the red carpet, with tricked out Crocs, lol. And then on stage for his performance it was a gorgeous green fringed leather jacket that looked so buttery and luxe in close-up – the video is below.

You could say that Shaboozey and the CMAs got a history. It was at the 2016 CMAs where Beyoncé performed with The Chicks and was booed. That experience was the catalyst for her to work on the music that became COWBOY CARTER. Shaboozey, as you know, is featured on the album and from there more and more people started listening to his music and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” took off.

Shaboozey was nominated for two CMA Awards last night: New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year. Guess how many he won?

None!

Because these CMAs are still on their f-cksh-t, and it’s not like they need to stop now, especially after what happened on November 5.

Earlier this week, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” topped the Billboard Hot #1 yet again, for the 18th time. By that metric, it is the most popular song of the year. And just one week away from tying Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” for the longest running #1 of all time.

Last week Shaboozey was nominated for multiple Grammys, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year. This was his reaction:

@shaboozey

GOOD LORD!! Today I woke up to 6 Grammy nominations! This moment is something I’ve dreamt about ever since I started recording music. I’m grateful for everyone who ever believed and took a chance on me. I wake up grateful every single day. Never give up on your dreams LLC. #shaboozey #grammys

He’s so cute I can’t stand it. And his emotion, I think, illuminates why people feel the way they do about these awards even as they simultaneously engage in discussions about what they mean and whether or not they’re relevant. Because they clearly mean something to the artists.

We will see Shaboozey at the Grammys, and hopefully on the performers list too. But before that, will be see him in Houston on Christmas Day? Beyoncé will be joined by a few special guests during her halftime performance on Netflix. “Spaghettii” or “Sweet Honey Buckiin’”?

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

PS. It’ll be a little lighter on the site today as I’m not feeling great. Sarah’s got two posts, including the Gladiator II review. And Celebrity Social Media is coming. But there will be no What Else? today. Full schedule resumes tomorrow.
