Winona (Hair) Forever
Winona Ryder isn’t exaggerating when she tells ELLE UK that her hairstyle from Reality Bites was how so many of the girls in the 90s wanted to wear their hair. I know because that’s how I wore my hair for a year. I probably watched Reality Bites every day for a year, I was obsessed with that film and with her whole look and, in general, with her. Always with her.
That hairstyle, though, it was one of the few times I’ve been able to achieve an inspo. Not saying it looked exactly like Winona’s but close enough. I wish I could go back with a smartphone now and take more pictures of how it looked on me. Because I don’t have many shots of myself in that era. And I regret it all the time.
Winona says that she cut her own hair a lot back then. I didn’t cut my own Winona style but when it grew out a bit, like a couple of years later, I was cutting my own hair too (with kitchen scissors!) – because I didn’t want to pay to get it cut at a salon. And it wasn’t a disaster. Duana cuts her own hair all the time. Now the nostalgia is making me want to try it.
What else happened today…
Remember when Winona Ryder and Gwyneth Paltrow were friends until they weren’t, allegedly over the Shakespeare in Love script? In Amy Odell’s GP biography, Gwyneth’s version of the breakup points to Winona as the asshole – basically she’s saying that Winona started it. But Winona isn’t the only ex-friend story, there’s also some sh-t talking about Madonna. Interestingly, Madonna and Dakota Johnson are friends. Dakota and Gwyneth used to be friendly… when Dakota was engaged to Chris Martin. Now that they’re no longer together, is Dakota choosing Madonna? (The Cut)
The summer of celebrity romance continues! Christine Baranski and King Princess are here to rep for lesbians. Or maybe they’re just playing the internet. Hannah Einbinder is shipping this, though. And if she’s telling me to believe, then I believe. (Pajiba)
While we’re here and talking about Hannah… have you seen these Hacks bloopers? Emmy campaigning with bloopers, I love it so much. (Autostraddle)
Samara Weaving is wearing a skirt that is meant to be provocative because the garter and the underwear are on the outside. The reason I find it provoking is because it looks so cheap – and probably not even Jonathan Anderson could have made this idea look expensive. (Go Fug Yourself)
I was today year’s old when I learned that Austin Butler was on Hannah Montana. Has it really been 20 years?! (EW)
