Zayn Malik is a trifling man for saying he doesn't know if he was ever in love with Gigi Hadid

Dear Gossips,

Happy Friday the 13^th to all who celebrate! It’s been a f-cker of a week so let’s indulge in some frivolity!

Zayn Malik went on Call Her Daddy and said he doesn’t “know if he was ever IN love with” Gigi Hadid (emphasis mine), the mother of his child and with whom he shared a six-year relationship.

There’s a word for this, and it is trifling. This is a trifling man. And not because he’s looking back on a relationship he had in his twenties, an era in which a lot of us make bad decisions and don’t know what we’re doing, in general, but for saying this sh-t on a PODCAST. Get your ass to therapy you TRIFLING MAN and keep those thoughts out of the public record!

A lot of us have probably wasted time on a trifling man, and it might even have been in our twenties, but I really cannot imagine hearing “I don’t know if I was ever in love with you” from a man for whom I endured pregnancy and childbirth. “I have the utmost respect for her”, do you, you nugatory boy? Do you REALLY respect her, if you’ll air out that picayune sentiment on a PODCAST?

It is perfectly valid to look back on a relationship, even a long one that resulted in children, and wonder what it was all really about—again, especially given how young they were—but the place for those ponderings is the privacy of a therapist’s office, or your best friend’s couch. Not everything needs to be shared on main. There’s a way to say, “the kid changed everything” without saying, “I dunno, maybe I was never in love”, and that way sounds like “we were so young, and then our kid came along and that changed so much”. You do not have to let the world know you weren’t in love! We can do that for math ourselves without publicly embarrassing Gigi!

Unless he’s one of those people who has to erase every relationship that has come before. Some people are like that. They can never just say, “it didn’t work out” and move forward, every breakup comes with a magic eraser, the slate must always be clean. I have an acquaintance who is now pretending her twenty-year marriage was a coma dream from which she has just awoken. Trifling behavior!

It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow. Wishing no one such trifling behavior! Wishing Zayn Malik would remember that Alex Cooper is not actually his therapist! Wishing Gigi Hadid peace in her life!
