Sarah said earlier in the CinemaCon post about the Wicked cast theme dressing in all that green and pink and I get her post about whether or not the theme dressing and everyone trying to do the Barbie thing is getting old. In that case, sure. But maybe that’s the wrong inspo. Because Barbie was so …literal. And while it worked for Barbie, the key to, dare I say it, a more sophisticated level of theme dressing isn’t Barbie but Dune: Part 2. And by that I mean, of course, Zendaya and Law Roach.

You do it not just in the colours but also the fabrics – sweeping sands and taupes, drapey browns, and a metallic robot. It’s giving desert dystopian energy but could stand alone on trend and fashion.

As for Zendaya the last few weeks on the Challengers press tour, some might say it’s too literal but, at the same time, tennis and golf core are actually big trends for 2024. And when a style of clothing becomes core, it means that you can wear it from the activity to the office, to the club, for drinks with friends, out for dinner, to church if that’s your groove. A pleated knee-length golf skirt with a polo and a crested cardigan for Sunday service? Style and spirituality, see?

But, then again, we’re talking about Zendaya here; she is the best of the best. So, yes, to go back to Sarah’s point, not everyone is executing the way she is. And not everyone has Law Roach in their player’s box. Ha! See what I did there?

Sorry, can’t help it, not when they keep serving aces, lol, I did it again. No but seriously, this is the ace of all the aces we’ve seen so far. In London last night for the Challengers premiere, Zendaya basically throttling me in custom Thom Browne…

…as you may know if you visit here often, I am partial to Thom Browne. Thom Browne is my whole sh-t, and Thom Browne + tennis/golf is a perfect fit. The brand’s signature is crisp and clean lines, a lot of white, a lot of pleats, so this sets up already as a natural collaboration because it’s not a stretch, none of this is a stretch within the house’s well-known and recognisable themes. Which include the collar, the pleats in the skirt, and the brand’s three colour stripes to line the hem.

But also it’s the attention to detail. The embroidered racquets that subtly give texture to the piece, and then MY GOD, the netting in between the pleats. THE NETTING! IN BETWEEN! THE PLEATS!

Yes, yes, it’s on theme. But more importantly, it’s just a beautifully original design feature that gives dimension to the movement of the skirt. Then you finish it off with a layer of sequins and the result is… breathtaking, like just so f-cking inspired, I can’t with these people!

And we haven’t even talked about the hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An Anna Kournikova braided ponytail, are you f-cking kidding me?!

I’ll stop shouting now, and I’ll also just let this look stand alone on her own, because we do have more Zendaya fashion to discuss but we’ll do it in a separate post because, again, this Thom Browne deserves her own moment.
