The Dune films come from the same studio, Warner Bros, that is trying to delete Coyote vs Acme . Denis Villeneuve’s involvement with WB for Dune pre-dates current CEO David Zaslav, but I am mentioning this because he now has a reputation for f-cking up art and f-cking with artists and, well, he better not be f-cking around with Zendaya and messing with her bag because she is the MVP of this press tour, and the whole point of a press tour is to promote a movie and you promote a movie so that people go see it and you want them to see it because it makes money and that’s the only thing Zaslav cares about.

No one else is drawing eyeballs on a red carpet the way Zendaya is. And no one else is carrying the pressure of knowing that everyone’s eyeballs are waiting for her to hit the red carpet the way she is. Somehow though, she and Law Roach keep topping themselves – and they’ve kept this up for YEARS. Not weeks or months but, like, we’re coming up on almost a decade now (next year marks the 10th anniversary of her wearing dreadlocks and Vivienne Westwood to the Oscars), that’s how long these two have maintained the streak.

Which brings us to their latest achievement, last night at the London premiere of Dune: Part 2, and it’s not like we weren’t anticipating it because we were ALL anticipating it, and usually when you build something up this much it’s always a letdown. How do they always live up to the moment?!

People have been quick to make the C-3P0 comparisons. And I get it, of course. But there’s a more recent one: Beyoncé.

There was also a lot of Mugler during the Renaissance World Tour. And while the two piece above are slightly different, this is the Thierry Mugler 1995 collection – archive and very, very exclusive. They don’t let these pieces out for just anyone, but does it get any bigger than Beyoncé or Zendaya?

Last April I went to the Mugler exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. It was SUCH an experience, to see up close these iconic works of art, like the outfits from George Michael’s “Too Funky” video. The outfit that Zendaya wore last night, though, was only shown in a photograph and that tells you how precious they are with it. It tells you the status that Zendaya and Law Roach occupy in fashion.

Is it a stunt? Of course it is. Is it fashion? Of course it is. Is it on theme? Of course it f-cking is.

Machines are part of the Dune universe. “Thinking Machines” is what they’re referred to in the text. This, then, on Zendaya, is the fashion “Thinking Machine”, at the sand carpet of the premiere – thoughtful and provocative, soaring on every level. We seriously have to remind ourselves and be grateful every day that we are living in real time during the Zendaya+Law Roach partnership.

Is he gloating? You’re goddamn right he’s gloating. He should gloat forever.

Zendaya changed into another Mugler look after, causing an earthquake with her first one and then she met up with Tom Holland for the party.

As for the rest of Team Dune, the photos of Zendaya next to Timothée Chalamet make me laugh because, well, he had to stand next to her.

Austin Butler pulled out his best look of the press tour so far but, again, it doesn’t really matter:

And Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy, whose appearance in the film was just confirmed this week, both showed up in hoods. Anya is wearing custom Dior, it’s beautiful, it totally suits her character in the film, and on any other night, she would have been the main event. On this night, though, there is only Zendaya.
