Zendaya: For Tom
Production on Kristoffer Borgli’s film, The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, began in Boston this week. So Zendaya is working. But she did find time last night to be in New York for the launch of Tom Holland’s non-alcoholic line of beverages, BERO. And not just that, even when she arrived at her hotel, dressed casually, she had on a BERO-branded ball cap. This is big wife energy! And it’s also why they are the internet’s most beloved couple: Tom is Z’s biggest fan, and Z is Tom’s biggest fan.

…and she also posed with his dad:

Two things here: first, I continue to appreciate how she does not make herself shorter even though her boyfriend is shorter than she is, and I also appreciate that he doesn’t give a sh-t that he is shorter than she is.
Second, this look. And the point I made the other day about Zendaya’s appearance at the Rock Hall to induct Cher, and her naked look was that that was one of the few times that the main character of the look was boddddyyyyyy. On almost every other occasion, even when she wears tight clothing, even if it’s cropped, even if you can see a lot of skin, the vibe of it doesn’t scream SEXY SEXY YOU WANT TO SEX ME. And this Louis Vuitton is a good example of that. It’s totally fitted to her body. There’s a deep V in front and a lot of exposed skin. But you’re not clocking it for the skin. You’re clocking it for the leather in the richest oxblood, how beautifully constructed it is through the waist, with the stitching from the nipples down and then across the midsection.
Like even if you didn’t know it was Louis Vuitton, you know it’s the highest quality, and the way EXPENSIVE should look. Of course it’s custom.
That’s another thing – it’s custom… and usually custom is for premieres, for award show appearances, not for a launch party of a product that, technically, isn’t even yours. But she clearly wanted the attention. She and Law Roach are more aware than anyone else of the impact of what she wears. And she was bringing that impact to Tom’s event – FOR Tom.
My heart! What are you two doing to my heart!
And finally, because there’s so much Zendaya to get to today, remember when she wore that insane Mugler from the archive to the London premiere of Dune Part 2? Of course you remember. There’s a new Mugler documentary streaming on Prime Video right now, Inside the Dream Mugler, and that moment is part of it. Here’s Zendaya at the fitting with Mugler creative director, Casey Cadwallader. Can’t wait to watch this weekend.
I went to the Mugler exhibit a couple of years ago at the Brooklyn, 130 looks, some of them on display for the first time ever. Like I nearly cried when I saw the looks from the “Too Funky” video. Every single one was exquisite but this one on Zendaya, I’m pretty sure, was only present in photographs, and not part of the collection. If it wasn’t already obvious, the magnitude of her wearing it.
