Zendaya and Law Roach opted for a low-key look at the LA premiere of Euphoria season 3

Zendaya, as we just saw, went all-out to promote The Drama over the last few weeks. And now, just over a week after The Drama opened in theatres, it’s time for season three of Euphoria, so there’s been some interest in how much energy Zendaya would be giving this project.

Last night was the premiere, Zendaya was there in a slinky high collar dress with a lot of side boob, beautiful of course but… not exactly the OMFG of The Drama press wardrobe.

I’m not sure it wasn’t intentional either. Like, she showed up dutifully, because Z is nothing if not professional, but I can’t imagine that she or Law Roach had this on the A rack. Also there was no posing with Sam Levinson, the controversial showrunner, which is unusual, considering she’s the show’s lead and he’s the show’s creator and they were close. Before, that is.

But Sam has been heavily criticised for his writing, accused of exploitation, and also called out for how he’s managed his sets, that he reportedly doesn’t respect anyone’s time, that he’s disorganised and often overbudget, that he’s operating often without a clear plan – not just on Euphoria but on The Idol, a total mess of a show from top to bottom.

To go back to his relationship with Zendaya, then, it’s the article in The Hollywood Reporter from July 2024 that people point to that may have been the end of their partnership, at least spiritually. In that piece he seems to blame her being a movie star for the delay and the long gap between Euphoria seasons two and three. And in a subsequent interview with Vanity Fair, Zendaya sidestepped a mention of him, while remaining committed to her character, Rue, and finishing off her story. Many people also read into her comment about how the Euphoria delay had nothing to do with her schedule since she had, by that point, been pretty free for over a year.

Euphoria season three started production in February last year and continued through 2025. Zendaya also filmed The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Dune 3 afterwards and in-between. Somehow she was able to pull all of that off and maybe get secretly married – so her time management, really, should not be in question.

She did, however, spend very little time at the Euphoria premiere last night. It does not appear that she stayed for the greeting. Again, as previously noted, there was no red carpet moment with Sam, although they did greet each other briefly.

That, to me, looks perfunctory and rather impersonal. So, presumably, she has given this series what she can, and is more than ready to move on.

The same could be said in Jacob Elordi’s case, arguably the second most-successful cast member, considering he was just nominated for an Oscar. I don’t see any group shots with the cast that include Jacob (if you have, let me know) but he did stop to greet Maude Apatow.

What about Sydney Sweeney? The Housemaid reversed her slump after back-to-back flops last year so she needs the boost she’ll get from Euphoria right now to continue rebuilding momentum. And Cassie’s storyline will probably give her that, now that she’s on OnlyFans and doing, well, what Cassie does. No doubt by Sunday night our timelines will be inundated with Sydney-Cassie content and she will leverage that accordingly.
