Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Keira Knightley attended the Academy’s Governors Awards on Saturday night. As you know, all of them are in the award season race this year; Cumberbatch and Knightley for The Imitation Game and Redmayne is contending in The Theory Of Everything. According to Oscar experts, Michael Keaton is still leading in the Best Actor category with Eddie in second place and Benedict currently sitting in third. Eddie’s been working it a lot more visibly though, tirelessly showing up to every screening, every Q&A, without scraping the lower end of the event list. Benedict may have lost early ground to him because he’s been shooting The Hollow Crown but Harvey Weinstein understands Oscar timing probably better than everyone else. He’ll likely have Cumberbatch hustling whenever his schedule allows all the way through December, right up to when the Academy announces its nominees on January 15 and hard, hard, hard for a month after that.

As for Keira, 21 out of 24 Oscar experts are predicting that she will be nominated for Best Supporting Actress. That’s more than Meryl! Chances of her winning however are very, very slim. Patricia Arquette is probably the favourite in that category…for now.

But that’s why you campaign. Because as we’ve seen time and time again, it works.
