This shouldn’t have been a surprise. Britney Spears’s new album, Glory, drops August 26th, just a couple of days before the MTV VMAs and, as mentioned last week, there are no conflicts in her schedule. Britney and MTV confirmed yesterday that she will indeed be performing with this video announcement:

To be honest, I wasn’t paying attention to Britney (or her voice) when I started watching this. What I was focused on was …the perfume bottle:

Do you know that bottle? If you grew up in the 80s you might know it. For sure you know this one:

I wore the f-cking sh-t out of Liz Claiborne as a teenager. It was my favourite fragrance for a long time. They came in red, blue, orange, and yellow. Yellow was the best colour, obviously. Last year, for some reason, I got all wistful about fragrances and started wearing it again, only it’s hard to find the original bottles. The new bottles look like the one in Britney’s promo. And like this, on my dresser:

Wondering if I'll be able spend 5 hours in these tomorrow night. #ViewsFromTheCloset

Evidently the set designer for this video thought it was a good look. Intentional or not, it does go with the nostalgic theme. Because what you’re supposed to remember is the python.

The python slinks its way through her MTV history. This year is the 15th anniversary of that python. And while she’s supposed to be performing a new song, I wonder if she’ll throw down a throwback?
