Dear Gossips,

If you’re watching the basketball game, or a five set tennis match between Djokovic and Nadal, or when young Rory McIlroy walks off the golf course and whinges about a sore tooth for pulling out of tournament, or if the ref makes a very, very bad call in favour, as always, of the Boston Bruins, do you think to yourself, well sh-t, I can’t wait to hear what Regis Philbin has to say about that...?

Fox Sports is launching an all-sports network, Fox Sports 1, and one of the shows will be modelled after The View, with Regis Philbin leading the panel. He loves sports, I get that. And he can be funny, for a certain generation. But, um, what is the demographic here?! Remember on Regis & Kathie Lee/Kelly when he used to talk about how he went to dinner at Donald Trump’s the night before and then the opera and how Myrtle the comedian came over and they laughed about the time in the park where they did the thing and wasn’t it so great and funny...? Are these the stories we’ll be hearing on The Sports View? Or am I making television too complicated when, in fact, it doesn’t require much: Throw up a familiar face, no matter what, and they will watch. True or false?

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
