Bradley Cooper’s only appearance

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 opens today. Sarah reviewed it yesterday and prefers it to the first movie. It’s generally well-liked by other critics too. So the question isn’t whether or not it will be big. It’s about HOW big. As in how many millions over $100 million. And, as previously noted, this is why the press tour didn’t need Bradley Cooper. He’s a name, of course. But the franchise itself is more than half the draw. And Chris Pratt and others could do the rest.

That said, Coop will be on Ellen today for his only appearance in support of GOTG V2. Which would be his first interview since he and Irina Shayk had their daughter, Lea. And Ellen always gets to ask the personal questions. Even Ryan Gosling will talk to Ellen about his babies.

Coop?

Not much. Ellen made it a joke:

“I don’t know if you know this but you have a baby.”

His response:

“What?!”

Ellen:

“When you get home you should look for it. It’s somewhere in your house.”

And that’s about it. Apparently there’s an additional joke at the end of the interview about the fake baby in American Sniper but Coop obviously didn’t want to go there, not even with Ellen. And that’s been consistent with his approach during the pregnancy as well. Besides, he’d rather talk about directing A Star Is Born.

Did you see the clip that TMZ posted earlier this week of him singing on set? Click here if you missed it. During the conversation with Ellen, he complimented Lady Gaga on her talent and then shared the experience

"Ellen, do you sing? I thought I sang. I was like, 'Yeah, I sing.' It's so hard to sing! Like, people cook—but then there's cooking. I'm a good cook, but to be an amazing chef...So, singing, I had no idea. I would get fatigued at the end of even a phrase...I've really been awakened to the phenomenon of singing. I just hope I can be believable enough so you can watch Stefani—that's her name, Gaga—just shine. Because she's incredible. I just have to make sure at least you believe my character, so she can then be incredible."

What’s interesting here is that I don’t think Gaga being incredible is going to be the conversation. What we are going to hear about is Bradley Cooper directing his first movie and acting in that movie AND learning how to play the guitar and singing. If the film is any good, this is the storyline that they’ll be pushing. Playing guitar and singing will be like how Leonardo DiCaprio had to be so cold in The Revenant. Singing will be like how Leo had to sleep inside a bear. And directing on top of all that cold bear-f-cking? A herculean accomplishment. But you know what? That’s actually not fair. Bradley Cooper has taken risks in career that Leo still hasn’t. BCoop is singing and directing at the same time. He’s been on Broadway. He’s hosted Saturday Night Live (which I’m convinced Leo won’t do because he can’t play live). Bradley Cooper has certainly stretched. Remind me again why we have to keep falling down and praising the sky over Leonardo DiCaprio?
