As Duana just mentioned in the previous post, there were a lot of pink and red dress combinations on the Emmys red carpet last night. There was, however, a standout all red outfit that deserves its own spotlight. And the wearer, always, deserves her own spotlight: Angela Bassett. MY GOD.  Full Story

All award season, no one has really expected Black Panther to win. Just being nominated IS the win, when the trophy club is so stacked against superhero movies. But the SAGs broke rank and actually gave Black Panther a trophy, awarding the cast Best Ensemble, the equivalent of Best Picture. This is a big deal! The SAG Awards are not a great prognosticator for the Oscars—their Best Ensemble lines up with Best Picture slightly less than 50% of the time—but the actors are the biggest voting branch of the Academy. Full Story

I think about the Black Panther press tour a lot. Mostly, I think about how much I miss it and how much joy it brought into my life. Well, awards season is coming, and the Black Panther press tour is getting a second leg. Angela Bassett Full Story

August 16, 1958. That’s her birthday. She turned SIXTY. Angela Bassett is six decades old. She is the same age as Madonna. She is the sleekest, most stylish woman at these awards and nothing as petty as a live television show, or mispronouncing a name, or even genuine joy at presenting with Tiffany Haddish, who was overjoyed to do the Wakanda salute with her, is going to interrupt her ridiculously sleek style. Full Story

Angela Bassett at 59

On August 16th, Angela Bassett will turn 60. If you’ve been watching Angela Bassett slay the sh-t out of every red carpet she’s been a part of lately or for the last 33 years of her career, you know how ridiculous that fact is. SIXTY. She looks incredible. She gets that a lot. In a new interview with Net-a-Porter Full Story

Chadwick Boseman and Lupita Nyong’o are both presenting at the Oscars on Sunday. No idea if they’re presenting together, but they’re both riding the Black Panther high—and it will be the dominant film again on Oscar weekend which, if Get Out were to pull off some kind of upset, would be serendipitous—so they both get to do that superhero strut on stage, together or separate. Full Story

Sarah saw Black Panther last night. Her first e-mail to me after her screening was, of course, about Okoye. I’ve BEEN telling y’all about Danai Gurira’s Okoye. People are going to lose their sh-t over Okoye. They are going to be demanding a standalone Okoye film. The same can be said for Letitia Wright’s Shuri or Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia. Full Story
