Horror movies have a long history of exploiting feminine fear, but some horror movies take it a step further and are about feminine fear. Leigh Whannell’s update to The Invisible Man, repurposing what was supposed to be a Johnny Depp blockbuster as a low-budget genre piece, is one such movie. Full Story

Wes Anderson’s latest film, The French Dispatch, is set for a summer release and is expected to premiere at Cannes. If it does, it will bring a collection of stars to the Croisette unlike any other ensemble that could be assembled. There is nothing more frustrating than a movie that wastes a good premise AND a good cast: Welcome to The Kitchen, the most frustrating movie of 2019 (so far). Adapted from a comic book by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle, The Kitchen is the directorial debut of screenwriter Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton), and it stars Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss. Full Story

After a stunning debut like Get Out, anything less than equal success is bound to seem like a disappointment. Such is the case for Jordan Peele’s sophomore feature film, Us. Is it bad? Well, I can buy that she’s consistently funny and the best choice in her weird-ass category – Bergen and Messing are out because if you didn’t like the show the first time around, it’s not gonna be better now (plus people hate revivals) – and The Good Place and GLOW are both odd, offbeat shows, so it follows. Full Story
