She’s been trying with stuff like Deepwater Horizon and Annihilation, and Gina Rodriguez now has a leading action role in Miss Bala, an English-language update of the 2011 Mexican thriller of the same name. We can debate forever the value of adapting foreign-language films into English—yell about reading the damn subtitles all you want but simple reality is most people won’t—but what is not up for debate is that Gina Rodriguez should get to do whatever she wants. Full Story

Letitia & Gina: Emmy Underused & Underwhelming Faves

Letitia Wright was nominated for an Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her work in Black Mirror. She lost and she did not present so the only Letitia we got was during the red carpet show. Gina Rodriquez was the opposite. She was not nominated (an injustice) but she did present and she missed the red carpet because she was stuck in traffic. Full Story

We’ve got another entry for the celebrity engagement boom! We need a better name for this pandemic of proposals by famous people. Weddingpalooza 2018? The Summer of Bad Ideas? Gina Rodriguez’s possible engagement is the one that does not seem like a bad idea. Full Story

First… are you all caught up on Atlanta? Last night’s episode destroyed me. Every episode has destroyed me. Every single episode this season has been f-cking genius and, seriously, this is not hyperbole. Teddy Perkins? Woods? North Of The Border? FUBU? That’s four back to back to back episodes that are better than any other half hour of TV on any other show right now, no exaggeration, and that includes black-ish, my favourite show. Full Story

In preparation for this piece, I watched a full episode of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and oh my god, it was EVERYTHING. I remember it so well. I wanted to be a gumshoe so badly. I’m still just as bad at geography now as I was then so I got an embarrassing amount of questions wrong while playing along. Full Story

The more I look at it, the more I like Zendaya’s chocolate brown dress at the Oscars proper. Now that I’ve seen her Vanity Fair dress, I actually love it – the brown one, I mean. Here’s her Vanity Fair dress. Full Story

A conversation came up at work the other day about the actresses considered to be “America’s Sweethearts.” The usual suspects were named like Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner. Then, Gina Rodriguez came up. I don’t think anyone agreed with me but I consider Gina Rodriguez to be in this category of America’s Sweethearts. Full Story

You Need Gina Rodriguez In Your Life

I am all about the SAG awards having only female presenters, and it was pleasantly not noticeable in the way that men must feel all the time but I was of the opinion that Gina Rodriguez presenting with Megan Mullally was a slightly odd pairing, first of all, and a thankless task for both of them. I especially like how they were scripted to talk about the fact that each of their shows were groundbreaking and showcased a variety of communities … and then they presented the best Male Actor in a miniseries to – SING IT WITH ME – five white men. Full Story

Gina Rodriguez is promoting an animated movie called The Star, in which she voices the Virgin Mary. Aside from Annihilation, an ensemble fantasy adventure co-starring my girl Tessa Thompson and Oscar Isaac that I am SO excited for, she’s got three voice roles on the docket. Full Story

Gina Rodriguez: Best Effortless Emmy

Gina Rodriguez makes it look easy. Even when presenting with Shemar Moore, who seems like one of those dudes who gets more attention than he’s entitled to no matter what project is happening, she’s charming, cool enough, in a spectacular dress that makes lesser publications think truly terrible ‘Virgin? IDK’ headlines are okay, and in general is a person you’re delighted to see at all of these things without getting sick of. Full Story

Is there a word for the kind of family legend that only half the family enjoys telling? In our house, it’s my parent’s legendary consequence bombs. They were the MASTERS of follow-through, no leniency allowed. Case in point, when I lost the house key they gave me in grade six, I didn’t get another one until three years later. Full Story
