Cannes has always been good to Gong Li. You could even call it adoration. I was once in an elevator with Gong Li in Cannes at the Carleton Hotel. As a Chinese person, growing up influenced by Chinese pop culture, it was an awesome moment. She was the face of Chinese cinema for a long time. Some might even call her one of the first faces of Chinese cinema as presented to the rest of the world. Full Story
Arriving in Cannes
So… A quick travel update: I’m at Heathrow. My flight was delayed over an hour in Vancouver which means I missed my connection to Nice, and now I have to wait 5 hours to get on the next one. Here’s a question if you work for an airline, and I’m not being facetious: Why do you board people on the plane only to hold them there while you fix the mechanical problem? I’m down with spending as much time as you need fixing the mechanical problem, but in this case, the captain said they knew about the mechanical problem when the aircraft arrived in Vancouver earlier that day.
