Check out Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, and Sterling K Brown at the NBCUniversal Upfront the other day promoting their new show This Is Us. Can we talk first about Sterling K Brown? Because by now you’ve watched The People vs OJ Simpson, right? So you know how F-CKING AWESOME he was as Christopher Darden? Like the combination of Sarah Paulson and SKB was a gift I never knew I needed but now I feel like I need it once a year, please someone make this happen.

Anyway, the trailer for This Is Us has broken records for a new show – something like 15 million and counting on Facebook. This Is Us is written by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love) and according to TV insiders, it’s getting a lot of positive feedback, projected to be one of the big hits this fall. Projections and reality don’t often line up. But there’s a lot of reason to root for this project, starting with its diversity – racial diversity, body diversity, age diversity, and… Mandy Moore?

God Mandy Moore’s been in a lot of pilots. So many pilots. For the last 5 years, seemingly, any time she’s been in a pilot it either doesn’t get picked up or she gets replaced. Is it finally time for Mandy Moore? And, if it is, is it coincidence or conspiracy that it’s happening now that she’s no longer with the insufferably precious Ryan Adams?

PS. Duana’s reaction to me asking her whether or not it was finally happening for Mandy Moore was skepticism. A lack of faith in the audience. She wants to know if she’s too cynical.
